TYING FLIES SINCE 1967
LAKES TO THE STREAMS, FISH WITH SHOO FLY
Fishing has always been in our family's blood. As a very young boy I remember fishing with a bobber and worm for perch on the Pend Oreille River in Idaho. Our family lived one city block from the water, and I fished almost everyday in the summer. We caught perch 12" and better and spent hours skinning these fish to eat for dinner. As I got older I wanted to fish deeper water. I wanted to fish in the middle of the river where I watched rainbow and cutthroat trout jumping everyday. My neighbor and I built a raft out of driftwood logs we collected from the shore line, and lumber from my dad's shop. We built a raft that we spent countless hours fishing off of, catching nice rainbow trout and cutthroat. I was the Tom Sawyer of Sandpoint, Idaho.
As I got older fly fishing came into the picture. At the age of 10 tying my own flies. My dad, two brothers and I would fish high alpine lakes with a spinning rod, casting bubble, and trout flies. Most of the lakes were stocked full of cutthroat trout 18-20" in length. Backpacking, camping, and fishing was our life. In 1967 my father taught me to fly fish with a fly rod, and I became hooked on the streams too.
